Founded in 1919, the University of Hamburg has approximately 38,000 students and 650 full-time professors engaged in teaching and research, as well as an additional academic staff numbering over 4,000. The University is spread over 150 buildings. The center of the University is its campus at Von-Melle-Park, which is situated close to the lake in the heart of Hamburg. Many more facilities belonging to the University are to be found in other parts of Hamburg.
