Academic Focus: Spanish Language Immersion
You will register for two courses at Temple in Spain: a morning language class, taught at the University of Oviedo by native Spanish-speaking professors, and an afternoon class, taught by a Temple or University of Oviedo faculty member. Upon arrival in Oviedo, you will take a placement test to confirm your level and course.
Morning Session Spanish Language Course Offerings
- Spanish 1002: Basic II (4 credits)
- Spanish 1003: Intermediate I (3 credits)
- Spanish 2001: Conversational Review (3 credits)
- Spanish 3001: Advanced Composition and Conversation (3 credits)
- Spanish 3003: Advanced Grammar for Communication (3 credits)
- NOTE: Spanish 2096 is not offered on this program. Students who have already taken Spanish 2001, but have not taken Spanish 2096 must complete Spanish 2096 prior to departure for Spain so that they are eligible to take either Spanish 3001 or Spanish 3003 as their morning language course.
Afternoon Session Course Offerings
- Spanish 0815: Language in Society (3 credits). Fulfills GB (Human Behavior GenEd) requirement for Temple students. Taught in English.
- Spanish 2000: Special Topics (3 credits). Course using the city of Oviedo and region of Asturias as the classroom, with a focus on local art, history, literature and gastronomy. Prerequisite: Spanish 1002, or equivalent. Taught in Spanish.
- Spanish 3221: Spanish Culture and Civilization (3 credits). Prerequisite: Spanish 2096: Composition, or equivalent. Taught in Spanish.
