Who, When and for How Long?

Education Abroad is available to answer these and other questions that may arise. Here are some basics to get you started:

Who?

All full time, degree-seeking Temple University students in good academic and disciplinary standing are eligible to study abroad. Knowledge of a foreign language is not a requirement to study abroad on all programs, although students are encouraged to gain some knowledge of a foreign language in advance. Look at our student profiles and blogs to learn about the experiences of other students who studied abroad.

Non-Temple students, check with your home school for additional requirements. Visit our Non-Temple students page for more information to help you get started.

When?

Historically, most students have studied abroad during their junior year, but study abroad during the sophomore and senior years is also an option. You can go as early as the summer after your freshman year. Ultimately, your major and curriculum will dictate the best time for you to study abroad. To determine the best time for you to study abroad, follow our Steps to Study Abroad and download your school/college guide.

How long?

You may study abroad for a semester, academic year, or summer. Generally, the longer the program, the better. It takes time to settle in and adapt to new surroundings; the longer you are abroad, the more you will benefit from the experience. However, short-term programs might fit your academic or personal goals better.

Eligibility Requirements

Temple programs are open to qualified students matriculated at any U.S. college or university.

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following requirements.

  • You are enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at the time of application as well as during the semester prior to studying abroad.
  • You will have completed at least two (2) semesters of college-level study by the program start.
Are in good academic standing and meet minimum GPA requirement for the program

  • Temple Summer Programs: 2.5

Are in good disciplinary standing

You are in good disciplinary standing at the time of application and remain so through the start of your term abroad.
