Dr. Maria Bottaro, is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Medical Biotechnologies, University of Siena, Italy. He holds a PhD in Genetics, Oncology, and Clinical Medicine at the University of Siena.

She works in the laboratory of experimental oncology and biomedical techniques headed by Professor Antonio Giordano, since 2017.

Her research interest is focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that are altered in pulmonary diseases, such as pleural mesothelioma, a rare cancer of the pleura with a dismal prognosis.

Dr Bottaro is also dedicated to several projects involved in the identification of new exploitable targets and biomarkers that can help clinicians choose the best therapy to advance the development of personalized medicine for patients with pulmonary disease.

She also works as a tutor for students affiliated with the Temple University's Siena Summer Research Program. She trained younger students on the principles of a research project workflow.
