Maggie Lindrooth was an Honors student, Russian major and theater minor from the small town/suburb of Bryn Athyn, PA, just a stone's throw from Northeast Philadelphia. She enjoys singing, dancing, writing, and learning languages, and studied Russian in an intensive program. She also studied Japanese at Temple Japan (Summer 2014) and has goals to learn Arabic soon as well. She hoped to move abroad for a few years to teach English in Japan, Korea, or Russia, after graduating before heading to law school.
"Coming to Russia has been an incredible experience beyond anything I could have imagined. While it's been difficult adjusting to living with a host family, taking classes completely in Russian, and trying to communicate effectively in a different language, I have no regrets about my decision to study abroad in Moscow. Any pre-conceived notions or ideas I had have been blown out of the water and nervousness has faded into great friendships and new experiences around every corner. As my Resident Director said the first day of orientation, "nothing is easy," but that's what makes this experience so valuable. Every day I am pushed out of my comfort zone and while that's terrifying, I'm learning more about the language, Russia, and myself than I ever thought possible."
"This has been an eye-opening experience to how I act as an American, a woman, and a person, and what I want out of life."
