Maggie Andresen, a journalism major at Temple University, couldn’t have imagined a more rewarding internship experience than at editorial firm Where Rome. “There’s nothing quite like seeing your name regularly in print, and as I’ve been lucky to contribute to Where Rome in both a written and visual capacity with accompanying bylines, I can attest that it doesn’t get old.” Andresen’s tasks at the editorial firm have included copyediting, translating, photography, and writing. In particular, her long-form writing skills have improved as a result of her internship placement, due to regular copy contribution. Where Rome’s published magazine circulates among the city’s hotels, embassies, and other places of cross-cultural interaction. Andresen’s varied experience working collaboratively in international locations producing content for English-speaking audiences has afforded her a unique perspective in the workplace, and consistently tests her ability to adapt to new environments. “Regularly hearing conversational and work-related Italian has been wonderful for my comprehension skills,” she reported, “As well as making meaningful relationships with my coworkers.” Andresen was able to navigate the foreign workspace as part of her resolution to remain aware of cultural nuances that were different from her own. “With an open mind and an incredible team, it was easy to become part of the Where Rome family.”

Maggie Andresen's next stop was to Rwanda through a Princeton in Africa Fellowship, and she continued to seek out important and meaningful projects overseas. View Maggie's website for the latest updates.

"The opportunity to enhance your cultural awareness through integration into a foreign workforce can only improve your ability to interact and engage with those different than you, which is imperative in an increasingly globalized era."
