Annalise Bossert studied abroad in Rome, Italy during the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters as part of the Temple Rome Entry Year program. She is an anthropology and classics double major at the College of Liberal Arts. Studying abroad in Rome was an amazing experience for her, as she got to live among many of the ancient sites she was learning about in her classes. She was even able to volunteer with Professor Jan Gadeyne and learn how to catalog and sort through various ancient artifacts discovered at the ongoing excavation site in Artena. She loved being able to travel all over Italy, with highlights including Fashion Week in Milan, spring break along the Amalfi coast, and a gondola ride in Venice during a weekend trip. As much as she loved traveling, however, her favorite part about studying abroad was becoming so comfortable in Rome that it truly felt like a second home. "To this day, I think I could still navigate the city like the back of my hand," she said, "and that's coming from someone with a truly horrible sense of direction." Annalise hopes to return to Rome soon, either during the summer or as part of a future graduate program.
